Berker R.1 White Glass

Berker R.1 White Glass

From £65.00

The gently rounded frame and circular rocker bring out the playful yet elegant personality of the R.1 range. In this version, the white plastic base is covered with a layer of clear glass with a slightly mint-ish tint.

We’ve chosen our favourite combinations of finishes and colours for this range. The modular nature of these switches allows for extensive customisation though, so get in touch if you have a different combo in mind!

Berker has a huge range of wiring products, functions and devices that can be combined with these frames. Contact us for information on other options if you can’t find what you’re looking for.

What you need to know

What’s in the box?

You will receive a modular rocker switch set, consisting of a switch insert, a rocker cover (or a set of them if you have chosen a 2-gang switch) and a 1-gang frame. (Set includes a bracket to connect frame and insert)

What does an electrician call this?

This is a 1-gang 2-way 10AX switch, or 2-gang 2-way 10AX switch, or a 1-gang intermediate 10AX switch

Where is this used in the home?

A 1-gang 2-way switch is commonly used for controlling a single light source from one or two places. A 1-gang intermediate is used as the middle switch of three, controlling a single light source (for example in a hallway). A 2-gang switch is used for controlling two light sources from one or two places.

Dimensions

Does this cover a standard british back box?
This product covers a standard metal knockout box, but it doesn't cover the edges of plastic "dry-lining" boxes. If you can't fit a metal flush box, we recommend using "flat plate" drywall boxes or European round boxes.

How deep does the back box need to be?
This needs a slightly deeper box, at least 35mm.

The concept

Berker launched the "Generation R" ranges (incorporating this and the rotary R.Classic) in 2012, as an antidote to the mainly square and edgy designs on the market. The round rocker seems to take inspiration from to the round backplates of our 1930s Duroplast or porcelain ranges, although the overall feel of the piece remains modern and contemporary.

Especially in white and black the R.1 design is a pared-down and geometric modernist classic, albeit softened by its playful rounded edges and rocker.

The range

There is a rich variety of different surfaces available for the R.1 - from basic plastic to completely bespoke and extravagant finishes, via some materials we've not seen on a light switch before. Concrete or leather, anyone?

The strong and unique shape ties all of these varieties together, making it one of the most versatile pieces in our catalogue, for a truly eclectic mix-and-match arrangement.

The inspiration

Because of its geometric shapes, the R.1 seems to sit well with minimal, scandi-style interiors, white walls and wall coverings that match its more eye-catching finishes.

On a rough, concrete wall for example, a concrete switch makes perfect sense, just like the dark wood version would go with more natural fibres and furniture. We do have a soft spot for the R.1 - it is unusual yet un-showy and seems to make everyone stop and smile at its comforting, unobtrusive personality.
