What you need to know

What’s in the box?

You will receive a modular rocker switch set, consisting of a switch insert, a rocker cover (or a set of them if you have chosen a 2-gang or 3-gang switch) and a 1-gang frame. (Set includes a bracket to connect frame and insert)

What does an electrician call this?

This is a 1-gang 2-way 10AX, 2-gang 2-way 10AX, 1-gang intermediate 10AX or a 3-gang 1-way 10AX switch

Where is this used in the home?

A 1-gang 2-way switch is commonly used for controlling a single light source from one or two places. A 1-gang intermediate is used as the middle switch of three, controlling a single light source (for example in a hallway). A 2-gang switch is used for controlling two light sources from one or two places. A 3-gang switch is commonly used for controlling three light sources from one or two places.

The concept

Based on the clear and geometric proportions of the Esprit design, the glass version of this range adds intrigue and class to the modern interior. The layers of tinted glass create beautiful reflections, amplified in different ways by the two types of edging available. Whether placed on monochrome painted walls or lush wallpaper, the “halo” effect of the refracted light brings a whole new dimension of light and shade to your walls.

Like with its siblings, the Lino-Ply and Metal finishes, it’s the detail in the material that links these switches with other interior features. You can even go beyond traditional glass furnishings like picture frames, tables, chandeliers or accessories and combine our Esprit Glass switches with matching door handles from HEWI.

The range

The three colour tints of this range – WhiteBlack and Mint – have been carefully chosen by Gira’s designers to bring a wealth of fascinating  perspectives to your interior scheme. The bottle green hue suggests the reflective glisten of clear, turquoise waters, whilst the white hints at fluffy clouds or frost on a window pane. Both of these variations are subtle colour tints, allowing you to create delicate, mellow effects on your walls. In contrast, the black version provides a more edgy, striking and masculine accent.

Adding to the versatility of this switch, there are two different shapes available. The straight-edged design makes a contemporary statement, rooted firmly in the modernist tradition. The rounded frame provides a softer feel, which, in combination with the opaque quality of the glass, blends and blurs the edges.

The detail

Glass, like water, reflects light and captures images. Walk past this switch and you’ll notice how it creates a subtle moving picture of your steps. Choose the glossy rocker to increase the light-play effect, or, the matt to allow the glass frame to work its magic alone.

Whether it’s clean lines or soft edges that you’re after, this piece will never feel cold and stark – the soft, natural, and reflective quality of glass lends a homely feel to the switch. Think reflection, refraction, glow, and the conversation between light and shadow. A miniature mirage on your wall.
