All our products are manufactured, tested and certified in the EU, carry the CE mark and as such conform to the relevant European standards, in particular the Low Voltage Directive. They are legal to be installed by qualified electricians in the UK – and completely safe to be used in domestic and commercial environments.
BREXIT AND CE MARKING
Since January 2021 there is a new UK product marking that will be used for goods being placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Wales and Scotland), called UKCA. It covers most goods which previously required the CE marking. The British government has issued the following guidance to importers like Swtch:
If you manufacture, import or distribute goods that meet the relevant EU regulatory requirements and bear the CE marking (or other applicable EU conformity marking, such as the ‘wheelmark’) you can still place them on the UK market with the CE mark until 1 January 2023. This applies whether the CE marking is used after the manufacturer has self-declared it, or after an EU-recognised conformity assessment body has assessed its conformity. After 1 January 2023 only the new UKCA marking will be valid.
Our conventional lighting control products, such as switch and dimmer inserts, are exactly the same as their European counterparts. Our British Standard socket outlet products, including items such as 13A switched/unswitched socket outlets, fused spurs etc are manufactured and tested to BS1363 as well as conforming to the CE regulations.
The exact relevant British standards are BS EN 60669-1:2018 for domestic switches and BS 1363-1:2016+A1:2018 for 13A plugs and socket outlets.
All the manufacturers of applicable products sold by Swtch comply with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) regulations, which cover the production and disposal of products with potentially harmful components. They also encourage reducing the amount of hazardous chemicals used in electronics manufacture.
Our manufacturers and ourselves also comply with WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations.
Swtch Ltd is a paying member of the “WEEE Distributor Take back Scheme” (DTS), which supports recycling of of electrical and electronic consumer waste.
